Great article. I'm currently trying to lose a bit of weight and a lot of people do research for increasing your metabolism but not how to slow it down. If you know what slows it down, you need to avoid them which is as good as what can speed it up.

I'll still drink beer though :) I just need to slow it down a bit.

Thanks!

"Processed foods include ready meals, crisps and chocolate bars. They are very popular because they are quick and convenient but guess what? The vast majority are also lacking in nutritional value, contain dangerous trans fats and are high in chemical preservatives." - Tom Parker

You are absolutely right. Nowadays, manufacturers do not put "trans fat" on their food labels anymore since it is becoming too unpopular among health-conscious consumers.

Instead, what you read in food labels are the words, "Hydrogenated oil" and "Partially Hydrogenated oil."

But here's the thing, they are just as dangerous to your health because they constitute a big percentage of the arterial plaque that gradually accumulate in your arteries.

Bottom line? Check food labels and avoid foods with hydrogenated oil and partially hydrogenated oil.

I used to have a very fast metabolism and could eat whatever I wanted whenever I wanted in high quantities and not gain weight.

That all changed in my late 20s to early 30s, as is the case for most people. That's also around the same time that many people have other biochemical changes such as developing mental illness.

And of course, medications have severe side effects affecting metabolism, hormones, liver/spleen toxins, chemicals in fat, triglycerides, cholesterols, blood sugar, etc.

Some say that's also around the time when environmental and dietary toxins have built up past a critical threshold. And of course, exercise routines, stress-levels, and behavioral/psychological patterns change a lot as people become of age and enter the workforce and/or start raising families.

We know that stress affects cortisol levels, for example, so even the psychological stuff matters. And people tend to do self-destructive things when they are stressed or depressed too.

So if you have a fast metabolism too, just be warned that it will probably change as you get older or if you continue your bad habits and/or poor diet. Either directly or indirectly it will come back to haunt you. Since you could prevent that, you might as well.

This is a really helpful article. Thanks
